About our Herd

Each individual member of the herd at Herd Thyme, whether they're fluffy, feathery, furry or human, helps shape the daily experiences we have at Herd Thyme. Every animal has come to Herd Thyme with their own unique story, and their stories touch the hearts of individuals who spend time interacting with them.

Animals live in the present and whilst some of them may have experienced challenges in their past the animals are able to show us that it is also possible to not just survive but also thrive. The animals offer hope and help teach healing and resilience, self reliance and meet us in mindfulness practices by keeping us grounded in the present.

“Horses have influenced my whole life. I was brought up training youngsters and horses with behavioral problems. I then became interested in Natural Horsemanship, and trained as a Recommended Associate with Monty Roberts. I am constantly inspired by the fantastic work people are doing in this field. The biggest learning, however, has been to listen to my own instincts. This, I believe, is the key to our personal growth and healing. We are each unique and valued, and the free spirit of the horse can help us realise this. In 2000 I began working with autistic children and it opened up a whole new world to me.
After many years living off-grid and raising 3 children, mostly as a single parent,  community, animals and nature have been an essential part of our healing journey.
I then went on to work with Rupert Isaacson on the Horse Boy Camps, and to do further training with LEAP as an Senior Equine Facilitated Learning Practitioner. I had the the pleasure of studying wild horses with Lucy Rees.
All these incredible experiences inspired me to set up my own natural herd, and create a space where people can come and be amongst horses and nature in a safe environment.”
Kara Dhyan, Director at Herd Thyme Ltd

By combining all this knowledge and experience, Kara has developed a unique experiential learning system that combines aspects of Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL), personal experience, and therapy.

Every staff member is deeply valued and brings another aspect of support and learning to the Herd. What we have created at Herd Thyme is so unique and deeply rooted in growth for everyone involved in the project.

At Herd Thyme we are passionate about helping our students discover their true potential through our supportive environment and with the help of all our animals.
